GRP Punjab Celebrates 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram

The Government Railway Police, Punjab is proud to participate in the nationwide year-long celebration of Vande Mataram’s 150th anniversary, commemorating the historic national song composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on November 7, 1875. As part of this momentous occasion, GRP Punjab will organize special programs across all major railway stations in Punjab, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, and Bathinda. The celebration kicked off on November 7, 2025, with singing of Vande Mataram, synchronized with ceremonies nationwide, followed by GRP staff.

Throughout the year-long campaign, GRP Punjab will engage citizens through various initiatives including photo exhibitions showcasing the freedom struggle, essay and poster competitions for students, karaoke booths at stations for passengers to record their renditions, and regular performances by GRP bands. These activities aim to foster patriotic spirit among the traveling public, strengthen community relations, and connect younger generations with India’s rich heritage. The celebration will integrate with key national dates including Republic Day and Independence Day, culminating in a grand finale in November 2026.

This initiative reflects GRP Punjab’s commitment to not only ensuring safety and security at railway premises but also promoting national values and cultural heritage among millions of passengers who travel through Punjab’s railway network annually. By transforming railway stations into spaces of patriotic celebration, GRP Punjab honors the legacy of Vande Mataram and its pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle.
